The blue beads adorning the edges of the belt hanging protect her from the evil eye. The front of the hanging shows an embroidered bird or flower -- a dual meaning motif that is often found in Southern Palestinian bedouin embroideries. This object was purchased in Jerusalem in 1972 by an American tourist.
