DescriptionA typical dress of the Beit Dajan village in the Yaffa region in the 1930s. Cross-stitch used in the square chest panel using DMC pearl cotton thread, and couching stitch that uses lurex metallic thread cording in the shoulder panels, outline of the chest panel and on the sleeves. The tailoring of the dress is consistent to dresses that were produced between the 1930s and 1940s. Couching stitch was predominantly used in Bethlehem and Jerusalem throughout the 19th century, however a Bethlehem embroiderer moved to Beit Dajan in the 1920's -- Maneh Hazboun -- who brought couching stitch with her.Her brother, Anton bought orange groves there (Weir 225)
