DescriptionA 1933 demonstration at Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem. Palestinians launched repeated protests during the British Mandate demanding independence and self-determination. These efforts led to the 3-year-long Great Arab Revolt in 1936. To quell the revolt, the British began a campaign that would eventually kill, wound, imprison or exile around 10% of the adult male Palestinian population. During this time, British authorities trained and armed squads of Jewish police and paramilitaries to aid the British in putting down the revolt.
